Hi Roberta, we have an urgent prayer request. The one doctor is concerned that there is cancer in Rachel‘s liver. So tomorrow morning they are doing an ultrasound of her liver. Please be praying for the outcome of that ultrasound. Please be praying for Rachel‘ liver and the rest of her body to be able to fight this disease. It’s been a very eventful week for Rachel. She needs a touch from Jesus. Thank you so much for your prayers.

Dear prayer partners,

We thank you all for your prayers and the encouragement that we receive so often. The last few weeks have been more of a challenge than usual, but with the Lord’s help we keep pushing forward. He certainly is an ever present help in trouble. God is so good!

We have several important issues we will share in this letter, so please bear with us.

1.  Ukraine: Yesterday we got a frantic call from Pastor Yuri in Ukraine. One of their daughters, Ema, married a wonderful young man of God a couple years ago. They live about 300 kilometres from Yuri and Galea and have a one year old son.

Yesterday Ema’s husband, Roman (not sure if I spelled it correctly), was kidnapped off the street by the private company in Ukraine that get paid for the men they can snatch. It has been an ongoing nightmare for the last couple years. We don’t have all the details about Roman at this point, but it is seldom these men that are snatched up are released. They are sent to the front lines, even with no military training.

Roman has been exempt from going into the military as he has an important job as a long haul trucker that brings much needed supplies into Ukraine. But these bounty hunters as we call them, they just don’t care and will take whoever they can nab. The Army pays them.

I have a video of a year ago that was recorded across the street from the children’s home we are building, that shows two of these bounty hunters grabbing a young man, beating him up and forcing him into their car. He was not seen again.

Please pray that against all odds, Roman will be released and reunited with his family. Pray for God’s Holy Spirit to comfort and protect Roman, Ema, Yuri, Galea and the whole family. This war in Ukraine has been so senseless and destroyed countless lives. Please pray for the war to end.

While I am on the subject of Ukraine, I want to report that the work on the children’s home continues forward and we pray  the work can be completed soon. It has not been easy to build this house and start this ministry in  a country at war, but with God all things are possible. We thank all of you who have generously donated for this ministry in Ukraine and we are close to having all we need to complete the home. Thanks again for the prayers and support!!!

2. From Renee on Monday:

Its been a week! So many ups and downs and this feels like this roller coaster ride is never going to end!

Rachels liver needs a healing touch from Jesus. The bilirubin is way too high. Her skin and eyes are starting to yellow. And its kind of strange since the rest of her liver labs are very good.
Also, this mass by her diaphragm is causing so many problems. Please pray that it shrinks and gets out of the way so the stomach, jejunum and small intestines can start working again.
Also, we are meeting tomorrow morning with an integrative oncology doctor. We are looking to see what we can integrate into Rachels health plan with what oncology and pulmonary doctors are doing. Rachels body needs to start getting built back up so the immune system can do what God created it to do; heal the body.

And of course, please continue to pray for all the other tumors to shrink and for Rachels body to be able to kick out the dead tumors and cancer cells. She has a lot of that in her body, causing all kinds of problems.

Thank you for each and every encouraging message and prayer. Weve received cards and letters of hope and encouragement from people weve never met, but we feel like are part of our family because of the outpouring of support and love.

3. From Renee yesterday:

Its been a tougher day. Her bilirubin is up yet again. Shes in pain and we need to increase or change up meds to help with that. Its tough watching her go thru so much pain and heartbreak.

From Renee today (Oct. 16, 2025)

Roberta; Rachel is declining. Last night the rapid response team had to be called twice to come and save her. Her trach went out of place and she stopped breathing. Her liver is failing. She sleeps most of the time. She needs more and more pain meds just to keep pain at a 4 or 3. She’s awake at night, between 11:00 pm and 5:00 am. I will be talking with her tonight about making her more comfortable and about what the doctors are saying. We have tried everything we know; praying/interceding, integrative health, homeopathy, etc….and her body is failing. She is supposed to be getting scanned in 2 weeks, but at this rate, she won’t make it that long. Who knew that a person could feel so broken and still keep breathing and putting one foot in front of the other? Yet, here we are.

4. ROL prayer requests:

Four of our teens and Cristi, our directors two kids will all be going to a retreat for teens today thru Sunday. It’s a retreat special for International Messengers missionary staffs’ kids. Our kids all grew up in ministries and have dealt with their share of cross cultural adaptations, which comes with some very unique experiences which these kids share and those ministering to them have so much life experience and love to pour into them!! Please pray for strength and wisdom for the leaders and for the kids to be encouraged and for the Lord to work powerfully in their hearts! And for all of them to be deeply blessed by their time together this weekend. And for safe travels for all.

5. Team: We will be having a team of 16 high school students and 2 leaders, from the International Christian School of Vienna, from Friday Oct. 24th thru Tuesday Oct 28th. They will be doing work projects and having activities with the kids here. We’ve had a very long relationship with this school sending teams here! (Maybe 20 years?! We don’t remember!)
But it’s always a pleasure to have them here. Please pray for their safety and spiritual growth while here at River of Life.

6. Fire Department certificate:

Where do I begin???? Back in 2007 when Romania was getting prepared to join the European Union, I had a conversation with our director, Cristi. He and all the rest of Romania we so thrilled to have the opportunity to become part of the EU. As Cristi and I (Doug) were talking on the subject, I simply told him to be careful what you wish for. At that time Romania was still considered a third world country, but people were open to the Gospel and being able to do ministry was not very complicated. Romania was poor, but families were close and debt was almost unheard of. Very few cars on the roads and many needs among the people.

Fast forward to today. In today’s Romania, the roads and city streets are jammed with more cars than the roads can handle. Most everyone has a lot of debt. The ministry at River of Life that we used to do well for $3000 per month, now costs an average of $18,000 a month and at times we struggle to keep the doors open. Families in Romania now seem to be so consumed with so much worldly stuff, the closeness is gone. Ministry here at River of Life has become difficult as we try to jump through all these hoops.

Two years ago the government went through and sent out teams of inspectors that went through all the places that provided any kind of social services, from homeless shelters to elderly homes. They closed a lot of places down, and fined others.

Since then the government added a lot of new laws that make it very hard to comply with. Small providers are stopping their services. We are the only private residential social service, that is licensed and accredidated, continuing to function in our county now. We are in the largest county in Romania. Timiş county is very large with two major cities, 8 towns and 89 villages, in an area of  3,358 square miles (8,697 square km). And the fact that we are legally providing Biblical Christian based social services makes us very unique as well.

We have our current fire dept approvals for the accreditation and licensing  renewal paperwork that Ileana will be submitting soon. But as they send out inspectors as the six month process goes on, they will expect we will have all that the new laws require. So, if we have the contract with the fire dept and are in process of complying we should be ok.

Many times it becomes so overwhelming we wonder if we should just close the doors.

One of those times happened a week ago. Our fire department certificate needs renewed. Since the last approval many years ago, there have been countless laws established that we now have to conform to or close the doors and send the moms, kids and elderly into the streets.

Cristi and I had a meeting two Fridays ago after he had spent over an hour with a man who helps people comply with the new laws. They discussed all we need to do to the Care Home to stay legal and be able to function as a foundation that gives social service.
After Cristi filled me in on all the new laws we must comply with, both of us were praying and seeking the Lord’s help. We just could not see how we could keep the Care Home open! It was a sinking, gut turning time for us and as we parted for the weekend, after realising our dire situation, Cristi and I pretty much melted down.

We figured that there was just no way !  But God!

Roberta knew something was up that evening but she didn’t want me to tell her. I was really bummed out but praying.

Then that evening as I was looking at the news, I received an article from an Israeli site talking about Moses. Deuteronomy 34:7 says “Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished.” This writer of the news article said that in the Hebrew language and the deeper meaning that is understood, this Bible verse speaks about Moses’ physical sight and strength, but also about his spiritual strength and abilities.

In essence the verse describes that Moses, up to the day he died, never lost sight of his original calling from God at the burning bush, and through 40 years of extremely difficult circumstances, he kept true to his calling.

That hit me like a ton of bricks and made me realise that the Lord was not telling us to stop because it was difficult, but that the battle is His!

It’s really hard for us to ask for support from everyone when we know that the laws all work against us but the alternative is to close down and send everyone to the streets.

Our staff met and as we prayed and I shared this verse in Deuteronomy we all agreed that our calling had not changed. Even when things look bleak, our God is an awesome God!!!

Then Cristi and I had a meeting this last Monday morning with the firm that will help us to get the building up to standards so we can keep doing the work that we were called to do. It was with the same man Cristi had met with before and he met with us and answered all our questions. The meeting lasted an hour and a half.

We agreed to hire this firm to help us. Next week they will send out an architect, an electrician and a representative from the fire department to assess the care home building and make a list of what needs to be done to comply with the new laws that have been put in place.

The fee for this firms work is $11,000 (!!!) and they will advise us and guide us according to all the new laws, what we need to do so we can get the building up to par. The head of the firm after looking at older blue prints of the care home, told us that we have a very good chance of being able to get the building qualified.

We have 41 doors that many may have to be changed to get them the correct size. We will have to upgrade our smoke detectors with a system that connects all of them together and has a central monitoring system at the estimated cost of $4000-$5000.

We may need to widen some of our hallways and not sure what we need to do on the electrical system. The stairway for the second floor may have to be relocated and built of steel or concrete. We will have a clearer picture of what we are facing after these people come out in the next week or so. It seems like a lot of work and expense, but without the renual, our building can’t be used for ministry. But God!!!

So at this point we are probably looking at $30,000-$40,000 to get us “ legal.” We certainly need prayer for this situation and we are continually reminded that this is not our work, but it is the Lord’s work. All these problems are nothing for Him to resolve. As His hands and feet here at River of Life, we just need to be available and obedient! He will fight for these precious souls that He has us ministering to.

So in conclusion, we will offer up the bread and small fish and Jesus will once again show His amazing power!

Sorry this is so long. Thank you all again for your prayers and support. If you are led to help us with the costs of the upgrade we face, please send your donation into our ROL Maintenance Fund Project (ZMF). The info is at the bottom of this email.

May the God of all glory and mercy, bless you and your families with His amazing grace,

Dear Prayer Partners,
We have some prayer requests for the carehome and also for Rachel.

Ileana has been working, the last few months, on updating the files for our license renewal we need to apply for every five years, to keep functioning. She’s hoping to send in the paperwork file this month.

I don’t know if you remember but about two years ago, they sent out a bunch of inspectors to all the places that provide social services and just hammered everyone with closing places and all kinds of fines for this and that - well since then, they’ve put in all kinds of laws and we aren’t sure we can jump through all the hoops.

Cristi has been having meetings with some guy high up in the fire department and we don’t know if we can comply with all the stuff they are demanding. One thing is an alarm system that is wired all together with a monitor set up in a room.
And we have wood framed upstairs rooms and everything here in this country is made with cement block. There are just legal standards for only cement. Please pray about this. And the security requirements may be more than we can meet as well.

Plus one of the carehome kids was tested this week by a professional and he only has a 56 IQ. He’s seven years old. We are sad about that. He will have an adapted curriculum at school- several of our kids have that. Please keep them in prayer. I saw a lot of improvement in his over the summer in our learning program. But in school he has one really bad behaved kid in his class that takes things from him and frustrates him a lot. That frustration in class keeps him from being able to learn in that  environment.

This is what I received this morning from Renee :

We still don't have many answers. We won't know until at least Monday, what's going on with the tumor around her stomach. But right now, that tumor is 17 cm. I asked them to compare it to the last scan where they captured that tumor. All the doctor could tell me was that it's bigger. But, the tumor on her cervix has actually shrunk a little. They didn't scan her upper chest cavity because they were looking to see what happened with the stomach and if there was blockage. Good news is that there's no blockage. But because of the tumor, they can't put in another J Peg for tube feeding. So now Rachel is getting TPN nutrition thru her PICC line.

Because she's only been on the increased Pazopanib for a week and a half, we won't know the full effect of the drug for a bit. They will do a scan at the end of October. That scan will capture both upper and lower chest cavity and abdomen. That scan will tell them if the pazopanib is working.

She's pretty weak and needs pain meds often. Her abdomen, especially the stomach area, really hurts her.

She's still fighting. We are still asking God for a miracle.

Renee also wrote this the
 other day:

She sleeps a lot when she can. But also is very aware. No questions about her care that she doesn’t have a say in. And she still believes she’s going to be healed.

There’s a lot of things I don’t know and don’t understand but one thing I know is that God is good and “ And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

He rewards those that seek him. When we wait in faith, he rewards those that seek him. When we pray in faith, he rewards those that seek him.

If Rachel is suffering moment by moment and is still faithfully waiting in faith, all these months, for Gods miracle of healing. We need to join her in her heart song of hope and faith.

I have to admit I personally wasn’t there this week. But yesterday Ileana asked me to do a Bible study with the moms on the book of Ruth.
In her grief and emptiness Naomi said she was bitter at God, yet he still had a good plan that was more than she could ever have hoped for or imagined. That she would have the blessing of being the grandmother of Boaz and Ruth’s baby, who would become the grandfather of king David and be in the lineage of the Messiah, King Jesus!!

I was just looking at what I could see and got discouraged, I wasn’t seeing with eyes of faith. Gods answer to my prayers that morning- was to point me to Ruth and help me to again see with eyes of faith, in our God that sees and does things that are far and beyond what we can hope for or imagine.

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Dear Prayer and Ministry Partners,

We are asking for urgent prayers for Maria:
One of our carehome moms, Maria, is going in for emergency eye surgery this morning. She has always had very poor eyesight. Her myopia is-20. She had eye surgery in both eyes and was so happy after that to actually see better than she ever had in her life!

But last June her retina started tearing and she went in for another surgery. She had a couple more during the summer and yesterday when she went back to the doctor for another check up- he wanted her to come in this morning for another surgery. Her eye is not healing well and he’s concerned she may lose her eyesight. Please pray for the surgery to be successful and for her eyesight to be restored.

It’s a really good eye clinic where I had my cataract surgery a few years ago, with very good doctors. He was so concerned about her that he’s not charging anything for this- just the clinics fee. Please pray for Maria. She always seems sad and I’m sure she’s afraid and concerned about losing her eyesight. It’s been a rough few months for her with this. She was so happy to be able to see; I’m sure this is very discouraging to her.

Please also pray for Ileana.
Ileana is our social worker/ case manager/ management team/ board member/ who works about a zillion hours a week doing everything from driving kids to school and helping with homework, spending hours on the computer working on updating the license and accreditation files, to shopping for groceries and overseeing distributing supplies and communicating with child protection and local supporters, and takes whoever needs it to their doctor appointments. She does everything and anything with all her heart.

Well, next week she will be going into the hospital every afternoon for treatments for her varicose veins. At this point, we don’t really know what that entails- at least I don’t really know. So please keep her in prayer over this. If this doesn’t help, the next step is surgery on the veins and she doesn’t want to have to do that. Our two cooks, Rodica and Dana also have serious issues with their varicose veins, so please cover their health in prayer as well. Thanks.

Update on Rachel, from her mother:

Rachel is still fighting to live. The doctors here at the new place really like her. But they are saying shes not going to survive. Its a matter of time. She wants to come home so bad. But she needs to be able to stand, move her feet and sit on her own. Even more importantly, she needs to be able to be weaned off the vent. Her desire is to be able to even get the trach out. Yet, that will require much work. She may not have the stamina for that.

Yesterday they took her by ambulance (non emergency, planned) to North Memorial to have a paracentesis done. They removed 4 liters of ascites off her abdomen. The cancer and the liver are causing the ascites. Her liver isnt fully functioning and so her liver is not making albumin. A healthy person has albumin levels of 3 or higher. Hers is around 1.5/1.6. Shes mal nourished because of the disease. The cancer/tumors eat up most of the nutrition that is put into her body.
She also has an open wound on her coccyx. They are trying to get the necrotic tissue sluffed off with a particular medicine so they can start using other medicine to heal this wound that goes to her bone. Please pray for Gods healing touch. Its pretty rough.

Please also pray that this Pazopanib that she is taking to stop the cancer from growing, will work. The other big issue shes facing is the size of the tumors. The tumor pressing into her right lung is so large that unless it shrinks, shes unable to breathe on her own. The Pazopanib does not reduce tumors. So she needs a healing touch from God.

Ive been allowed to run a Rife machine (frequency machine to break up disease), which is a gift because no one has ever heard of a hospital allowing this before. The oncologist figured she was so close to end of life it wouldnt hurt to use it”. So Ive been doing that for a few days now.
In the natural, Rachel will not survive this. The cancer covers her entire core area, surrounding all her organs and putting a lot of pressure on everything. The doctors think it might have metastasized to her bones and bone marrow. She does not want them to biopsy because its painful. Shes aware that this could take her life. But shes still asking God for a miracle. And so are we.

We are in Minneapolis so we are now about an hour and a half from close friends and family. She still gets some visitors, but shes not getting them daily like she was in St. Cloud. However, again, she has favor here at Regency. Theyve remodeled parts of the hospital and two days ago the moved her into the largest and nicest room in the hospital with the best view of nature. (Even in the city shes surrounded by trees and there are wild turkeys and deer).

Right now shes resting peacefully, watching Anne of Green Gables getting ready to go physical therapy and occupational therapy in an hour. Pray for Gods peace to invade her, removing all fears and anxiety. And of course, for His healing that only He alone can provide. Medicine knows they can only help her survive for a time. Yesterday I asked one of the pulmonologists if they were to remove everything from Rachel, how long would she live? Her reply an hour if shes strong enough”!  This is the battle shes facing. She needs Jesus to touch her.

Thank you for lifting these women up in prayer. Please also keep our license renewal process in prayer. Ileana is planning on submitting the file in October to the government, and we are in the process of repainting the interior of the carehome and doing maintenance and upgrading, plus we need to replace some furnishings; including: sofas, wardrobes, and dining room tables. (If anyone is led to help us buy these items, please send your gift into our ROL Maintenance Fund (ZMF), listed below, thank you). Once the paperwork is filed we go through a series of inspections and the process takes about six months before the license is renewed. Every five years we go through this process.

Also, I came across this and thought it was interesting:
These are links to the WhiteHouse for prayers for our nation- they are encouraging people to make a commitment to pray one hour per week with ten people for our nation up until America’s 250th anniversary. One link has a pdf with historical prayers that have been dedicated to our country. It’s really worth the read. It inspired me and I’m sure it will also inspire you!

You are so precious to join the LORD in His work in this way. I don’t know about you, but praying for Rachel all summer has really deepened my personal prayer life and relationship with the LORD. I believe we need to pray bold prayers in faith and hope and our hope does not disappoint- because it’s rooted in Jesus Christ! And He is good, loving, perfect, and powerful!

Thank you for joining with us in prayer!
Be blessed,
Doug and Roberta Moore
